Services such as dental care cost about 3% above the US average, and those prices shape what you pay for a dental implant in Massachusetts. If you're covered by MassHealth, the state Medicaid plan, you receive full dental care as an adult. So the plan pays for your checkups and cleanings, along with fillings and tooth pulls. From August 1, 2026, a yearly dental cap of $1,750 applies to adults 21 and older. The cap covers MassHealth Standard, CommonHealth, Family Assistance, and CarePlus plans. Only emergency dental services are covered for members with MassHealth Limited. Adult MassHealth plans don't cover dental implants. The plan does cover dentures when you need new teeth. Members under age 21 aren't affected by this yearly cap.
Beyond the $1,750 cap, MassHealth may still pay for full dentures placed for the first time after tooth extractions, and for denture repairs. Bone grafts may also count as a covered medical service when prior authorization is obtained. In other words, your doctor gets approval from the plan first. A bone graft builds up the bone in your jaw so a new tooth has support. Visiting a dental school clinic can help you pay less. Patients can receive implants at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine - Harvard Dental Center. Implant care isn't confirmed by the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine - Dental Care Center. If you want to know, you can phone their clinic to ask whether they place implants. Before surgery, you can look up a dentist's license online through the Board of Registration in Dentistry.
